HEAD HELD HIGH IS OUT NOW
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Alexandra Younes dropped her dark-pop/blues track, ‘Mama Said’, on May 17 — heavily inspired by Charlie Puth’s ingenious production and slapping bass lines. Produced by Kabusii, of Sydney pop duo, ‘Maari’, the debut track from her upcoming EP release titled ‘Head Held High’ oozes vocal intricacy and straightforward, undemanding lyrics. This release comes more than a year after her highly-anticipated, trap-inspired track ‘Love Me’,showing how Alexandra continues to develop, learn, and thrive off of honest story-telling. Mama Said is about listening to your mother’s judgments about the people you surround yourself with - a lesson we all need to learn at some point in our lives.
‘Head Held High’, is a body of work containing stories Alexandra pulled from the depths of her lowest lows, dealing with broken hearts, severed friendships, and the all-familiar, internal mental battles - there’s a song for everyone on this six-track EP produced by Kabusii and Matt Vail, and mixed/mastered by pioneer in the Aussie music scene, Daniel Skeed.
From the vulnerability of ‘Happy Ever After’, to the passion and yearning of ‘Losing’, Alexandra Younes takes you on her journey of confusion, anger, acceptance, and strength; all experienced when dealing with a relationship that can’t help but meet its fate of falling apart. Nonetheless, she uses her experiences to write relatable tunes, utilising her powerful vocals and captivating lyrics to put together a body of work that truly solidifies her place in this industry.
Alexandra’s most important rule to follow is: not to follow any. Refusing to box herself into a specific genre, her EP covers it all: shimmering pop, rock, blues, and even country. She has truly stuck to her goal of fighting for the freedom to write and play what she feels. Edgy guitars, sultry piano, and midi synths combined with explosive drops create a diverse sound throughout the entire project; truly setting Alexandra Younes apart from the rest. Pair the genius songwriting and production with powerhouse vocals, and a true sensation is born.
